2018 Q2 Expect Greatness in Yourself & Inspire it in Others: Joan Schultz

2018 Q2 Expect Greatness in Yourself & Inspire it in Others

Great accomplishment is often achieved through great challenge.  And when we see great things accomplished, we like to talk about them.  Today, we want to talk about Joan Schultz.

The Story

A little over three years ago, Joan recognized a need for change.  So much of her day was spent behind a desk, resolving the same issues over and over again.  She wanted to make a bigger, more lasting impact.  The first step was determining to take on an opportunity that would challenge her to learn new things and grow in ways that would be uncomfortable.  She knew she was capable of more, but how much more?  There’s only one way to find out.  Move.

She found the adventure she was looking for within the Manufacturing Team at Clickstop.  Having begun her journey learning the basics of production within Manufacturing, she quickly grew to take on a role in designing custom ratchet straps, wheel nets, axle straps and winch straps.  And most recently, she has taken ownership of the newest Manufacturing capability: Chain Slings.  But this wasn’t enough.  Joan wanted to better handle conflict and make a bigger impact on people through her leadership.  She enrolled in Kirkwood Community College’s “Leadership in Manufacturing” program and has used her training to support a highly engaged work force.

The Award

Joan has sought opportunity and found it.  She stepped into something unknown with tremendous curiosity and enthusiasm for learning.  Winning this award is just the next step in her journey, not the last.  Clickstop does indeed provide opportunity for those who seek it, and Joan is living proof.  As we applaud Joan for the work that she has done and is doing, let’s take a moment to better understand the heart and mind of someone seeking greatness.

How do you relate to this Core Value?

I don’t really think about ‘expecting greatness in myself’.  What I try to do is take initiative in what needs to be done, do more than what is expected and follow through to get the job done.  Being competitive makes me want to achieve and be my best.

What advice would you give to those who are seeking to accomplish great things?

Challenge yourself, focus on your strengths and encourage others to be their best.  Being positive and doing more than expected has a positive effect on others.

What encouragement has spoken the loudest?

It would be the amazing support from everyone in MFG when I’ve been through stressful and rough times in my life.

What can we find you doing when you’re not at work?

Golfing with my husband and being outside with our dog.

Cats or Dogs?

Dogs for life.  They have purpose!
