Christmas morning can bring excitement for families as the anticipation of giving and receiving culminates in the shredding of paper, sounds of jubilation and expressions of gratitude. But the lack of provision to create such an experience can instead create stress and anxiety for parents as they envision a Christmas morning void of gifts.
We’re In it Together
For the ninth year in a row, Clickstop is partnering with local organizations to provide families with presents for Christmas through a program they call, “Holly Jolly Christmas.” The aim is to provide relief to families who feel the strain of the holiday season and provide the happiness and excitement that is desired this time of year. According to program director, Erika Hempstead, “If you look past the shiny paper and sparkling ribbons you will see real joy that this program brings to the holiday season. It’s the joy of anticipation in a child’s excitement around the magical holiday spirit. It’s the relief in a parent face when we help keep that magic alive for their family; the gratefulness in their voice when they are lost for words to say thank you. It’s the feeling we get as Clickstopper’s when we share our sense of family outside of these walls, through our own families, with those in need.”
The program is coordinated by members of Clickstop’s non-profit organization, Clickstop Cares. Families are nominated by representatives of local schools, and organizations focused on supporting children and families. Once nominated, a mass of volunteers from throughout Clickstop will work to fulfill the wish lists that have been created for each person. Team members will purchase, wrap and personally deliver the packages to the families. “We are all in it together,” says Erika. “We are all connected, whether that be by ours kids in school, sports teams, church groups, neighborhoods, co-workers,etc. When we work together we can have more, be more and give more. The more we can serve others, we set an example of giving back and paying it forward. You never know what awaits us around the bend in this journey of life, being part of a supportive community gives a sense of comfort knowing that someone has your back when you need it the most.”
This year, the program will provide gifts for over 50 people representing 13 families. Hundreds of gifts have been wrapped from December 10-14 and will be personally delivered between December 17-21.
