Q4 Safety Award Winner: Marty DeHeck

While stacking a pallet, there were a few packages misaligned with the others. Looking at the rest of the pallet, you wouldn’t think it much of an issue. But for Marty DeHeck, it was a matter of doing it the right way.
This was the 5th pallet of the day. Each pallet involved 50 minutes of fast paced movement between making boxes, lifting and maneuvering a 5-pound product, placing in a box, sealing and placing on the pallet. Marty had touched all 700 plus assemblies that had been palletized. It didn’t matter that he was tired and that most of the pallet was neat and balanced. All of it needed to be, or it wasn’t worth it.
Doing something right isn’t about being right or wrong; it’s about achieving the best results. In the Warehouse world, the right way to do things leads to a safe work environment. Specifically, going home in as good or better condition than when you arrived.
The collateral effect of Marty’s choices lead to a good customer experience. The product is handled well and the customer gets what they want, when they need it, and in the condition they expect it.
Outside of his Warehouse role, Marty has helped us survive a crazy winter that brought lots of snow and ice. He was here on multiple mornings shoveling and laying down salt.

If you could live in any period of history when would it be and why?
The 1800s. I’ve always wanted to live the cowboy life. It’s not necessarily an easier life, but it’s more in line with how I like to work and live. Working hard with your hands.
What’s a movie you can practically quote from start to finish?
Goin’ South. I can do that all day long.
