The Three Elements of a Dynamic Workplace

When you think about what allows you to be your best at work, what comes to mind?

Let me guess some of your answers…
  • Flexibility.
  • Autonomy.
  • Understanding how you’re making an impact.
  • Feeling valued.
  • Recognition for your work.
  • Opportunity to grow.
  • Using your strengths.
  • Feeling connected to your team and the organization.

Three Elements of a Dynamic Workplace

We stated in our definition of a Dynamic Workplace that it is grounded in three elements:
  • Purpose
  • Community
  • Growth.

Consider the examples listed above, as well as the ones you thought of. Many, if not all, of the needs we have in the workplace fall into one of those three categories.

That isn’t a coincidence.

Entire cultures have been built around one category. Founders of companies and builders of culture often see the need for these elements individually or in isolation. You’ve seen the companies that offer a tight-knit, family atmosphere; mission and purpose-driven work; and incredible growth and learning opportunities.

  • But what takes organizations to the next level?
  • What makes a truly great workplace culture?
  • How do we move from being a great workplace to a dynamic workplace?
The answer…Alignment and investment in all three elements together: purpose, community, and growth.

Harvard Business Review has a similar conclusion and calls them cause, community, and career (kudos on that alliteration!) We refer to them as purpose, community, and growth, because it isn’t just about bringing your whole self to work. It’s about making sure when you leave work, you bring your whole self to your life outside of work.

What’s fascinating is these three fundamental elements aren’t impacted by our age. Whether you’re 20, 40, or 60, we each view them as a high priority. And to us, that makes sense.

No matter where you are in life, you want to be impactful and do something meaningful; you want to connect with people you care about; and you want to grow in areas that matter to you.
