Q4 2018 Core Value Winner: Be Adventurous, Embrace & Drive Change
It seems that adventure and challenge go together. Think about it, what we’re accustomed to doing becomes the norm. Say I climb Mt. Everest each day. Risky, right? Well, the familiarity of the risk eventually lessens the challenge and the adventurous feeling it creates.
What are we to do when the challenge is no longer stimulating?
Well, if you possess an adventurous spirit, you’re going to make a change.
Maybe I’ll decide to help other people reach the summit. The challenge is no longer how I am going to overcome my own fears and physical limitations; my focus becomes helping someone else successfully endure the mountain climb.
Or maybe I decide to leave the mountains and take to the sea. Buy a boat. Become a fisherman. Open a restaurant.
And yet, there’s more to being adventurous than finding the extreme challenges in life. Sometimes, it’s movement towards a mission, a cause or a deeper purpose.
Pursuing Opportunity
Rachel Neve has taken part in the Clickstop adventure for over seven years. She possesses a natural curiosity about what’s possible, which has led to a variety of roles and opportunities to positively impact the organization.
Her adventurous spirit recently led her to engage in conversations about a role change. No longer satisfied with the challenge, she desired to utilize her strengths in a more challenging role. This pursuit led to the creation of a role that will satisfy her thirst for adventure and serve as a great asset for US Cargo Control.

What is your role at Clickstop?

How long have you worked at Clickstop?
Just over 7 years
How did you feel upon being recognized for this award?
It’s always fun to be recognized! This particular Core Value is near and dear to my heart as I have witnessed and been a part of more change than I can even recollect over the past 7 years. Thinking about where I started at Clickstop and where I am today really just amazes me and fills me with pride. Being recognized for this Core Value made me stop and think about just how much change has happened – I love it!
What do you believe has led up to this recognition?
I knew I wanted a change of pace when it came to my day to day work. I’ve always thrived on variety and wearing lots of hats. The second I felt like maybe I wasn’t being challenged as much as I would like, I started having conversations with my leaders and peers. This resulted in creating a new role for myself that not only played to my strengths but was also an asset to USCC. I was courageous and communicated openly, but I couldn’t have done that without being curious & opportunistic about where I could go.
Have you had struggles within this Core Value? If so, what have they been and how did you overcome them?
I have always embraced changed but I may not have always been adventurous. Of course, I was always curious about my learning and development and wanted more for myself, but there were times when I just assumed it wasn’t possible. One of the most important things I have learned over the years is that I just need to be courageous- Ask questions, have conversations (not just with leaders, but with peers as well), and make it known what it is you are going after. You can’t be opportunistic if you never say anything.
Why is this Core Value important to the success of Clickstop?
I don’t think I even need to answer that! Clickstop wouldn’t be Clickstop without change, haha.
What can we find you doing when you’re not at work?
My husband and I like to go out and try new places to eat and drink at least once every week or 2 (sans kids). Otherwise you can find me at home hanging out with my kids or working on our house remodel. It’s also very likely that I am cleaning SOMETHING – sometimes I wonder if I have a touch of OCD, lol.
What brought you to Clickstop?
My good ol’ friend Sarah Meinders. You may not know this but Sarah and I went to high school and college together. I heard her raving about this new job she got at Clickstop and I, just having graduated from Iowa not long before, was very curious. A job that was related to my Photography degree just 15 minutes from my hometown? No way! The rest is history as they say….
What keeps you at Clickstop?
So many things! I literally enjoy coming to work Every. Day. I enjoy the work that I do and the people I work with. I enjoy being able to take my kids to their appointments (there are SO MANY the first few years of life!) and not have to worry about work while I’m there. I enjoy all of the opportunity available seeing my coworkers forge their own paths.
If you could live in any period of history when would it be and why?
70’s for sure! My soul was born in the 70’s.
Tell us about your first cell phone? What were the features?
Psht, a Nokia with Snake of course! I had a clear blue case that was basically the coolest thing ever.
What hobby would you get into if time and money weren’t an issue?
Backpacking! I used to go every year with my mom before I started a family of my own. I miss those mountains…
