Adam Shouse Wraps Up IMTA Leadership Forum
Back in April, we caught up with Adam Shouse to learn about the IMTA Leadership Forum and his goals for the sessions.
Now that we’re nearing the end of summer, we sat down for a quick Q&A to hear how Adam’s experience was.
Q&A with Adam Shouse
You’ve experienced three IMTA Leadership Forum sessions in three months. How are you feeling?
It feels fantastic to be a participant in all these sessions. Kudos to the IMTA and their entire staff for creating interactive and educational sessions that made a huge impact on my leadership and communication skills. Thank you as well to all the IMTA board members and LEAD Council members for all their time and effort to create a fantastic experience. It has been the most impactful thing I have participated in for my leadership skills.
What was your favorite session?
They were all great but the visit to the Capitol and Court System to speak with representatives from the state and learn about all the work that goes into advocating for trucking, and what that process looks like was extremely informative. I gained a deeper appreciation for all the individuals that represent our industry in those government roles.
You told us in the spring that you wanted to learn more so you could be a better advocate for the trucking industry. What have you learned that will help you be that advocate?
Listening to my customers and understanding what they are experiencing in the industry, and what could make trucking better. I also will be more involved in IMTA webinars and education sessions to stay up to date about policies and what as an industry we need to be advocating for with our representatives. Honestly, staying as active as I can and being educated in the industry will better serve my customers for years to come.
How have the sessions impacted your work or your mindset?
The sessions really emphasized I need to be an active leader in my own company and be a great communicator. You don’t have to be in a formal leadership role to lead for your own company, or in the trucking industry. I want to inspire others in my company to lead regardless of title and find ways they can maximize your impact!
What’s next?
Staying as active as I can in the IMTA through events or committees. The events are always fantastic and extremely informative. I want to continue to step out of my comfort zone and find ways to learn and grow as a leader for my company and the industry as a whole.

Be passionate about what you are doing in your own career and push yourself to be better daily. Personal and Professional Development is owned by the individual, you have to be willing to take charge of your growth. Keep finding avenues to become the best version of yourself in and out of the office!
